It is an ancient parish church dating back to the end of the VIII century. According to the tradition, it was built upon Galla Placidia's will, daugther of Teodosio emperor, in 437 a.C. The present structure of the church is the result of the deep restoration work which took place between 1945 and 1946.

The church, has in each nave has seven arcades sustained by rostral columns. The elevated apse has five windows. The belltower was rebuilt in 1950 on "protoromanic" style.
