PARCO DEL LOTO - LOTUS GREEN AREA

The natural reserve "Parco del loto", which is 77.252 square metres wide, is close to the town centre but still quite and in a very well protected site. The green are is characterized by a wide pond in which lotus flowers and water-lilies grow freely creating a beautiful natural environment.
This land is a private property that has been left wild and donated to the municipality of Lugo; after six years it has developed into a natural area with wild flora and small woods.
The bush has the typical hydric plants and characteristics: the bush is open to light, adult trees grows strongly, there are bushes of different sizes and plants of different ages. Thanks to the peculiar climate which characterizes this environment, the area shortly reached a natural and wild aspect and structure.
The park is named after the lotus, which is a water plant that produces flowers that are the symbol of eternal life in Eastern cultures; it is also a valuable officinal plant that blooms in July and August.
In the park there are numerous birds, such as goldfinch, nightingale, bald-coot, wild duck, heron, water-hen, kingfisher and many others.
