ANTICHE CASE GUIDI
A group of old historical mansion houses named "Case Guidi" are located in the territory of Bagnacavallo. They were built at the end of the XIX century by the Guidi family from Faenza and they all have the same structure. Usually they are in pairs, one symmetric to the other on both sides of the street.
At the end of the XIX century the Guidi family from Faenza inherited wide pieces of land in Bagnacavallo territory. In each lot, they built two houses, one symmetric to the other, usually divided by the street.
Today, only eleven of them still exist, all with the same structure; two or three floors, an entrance hall overlooking on the kitchen leading to a bedroom and to a pantry. Sometimes, the hall is directely connected to the barn, otherwise it is neccessary to pass through the kitchen. The barn, with six to ten stalls, has a vault ceiling. Each vault ends with capitals and in the middle we find a relief coat of arms (cross- or starshaped) where the construction year is engraved. The floor is in cobblestone.
On the first floor, beside a variable number of bedrooms (four or five), there is a wide hayloft covering all the barn surface.
Next to the house, generally on the right of the entrance, a building gathering the oven, the henhouse, the pigsty, the stable and the store is always present. On the left there is a shed that originally was closed on one side. The house had also one or two wells, depending on farmers's need. According to historians, Guidi family set up a kiln in the area between the paired hoses, so that they were symmetric to this ideal centre.
