ANTICA PIEVE DI SAN PIETRO IN SYLVIS
S. Pietro in Sylvis parish church, dating back to the VII century, is one of the best preserved churches in the territory and represents a typical example of exarchal architecture.
Probably the church was built next to an ancient roman temple dedicated to Jovis. The site could correspond to the eastern port on the south marsh area, used by pilgrims on their way to Rome towards 1000 AC.
The church has a rectangular plan with three naves with pillars supporting round arches.
The apse, decorated by frescoes by Pietro da Rimini who painted them around 1320, is east oriented, semicircular inside and poligonal outside. Other frescos date back to the XVth century and can be attributed to artists from Ferrara.
It has a raised presbitery with a cippus altar in Greek marble from the late VI century and an oratory cript of the VI- VII century preserving an altar held by pillars in the crypt dated back to the XI century.
The epigraphic collection in the left nave preserves roman handle bricks, two sandstone fragmented plutei and the marble arches of a ciborium dating back to the VIII century.

It is about 1 km from the historical centre, direction Lugo - Fusignano. Car and bus park. Accessible to disabled.
