Bagnacavallo: ASH TREE in via San Gervasio
This tree is a Southern Ash tree (Fraxinus oxycarpa excelsior). This species is today really rare and survives in flat land or low hills in yards or at the edge of fields. This tree is 21m tall and has a girth of 3m; most of the trunk is wrapped by ivy and some locust trees grow on one side of the tree.
Massa Lombarda: BLACK MULBERRY TREE in via Selice Vecchia
Isolated in the country, the black mulberry tree (morus nigra) in via Selice Vecchia has an height of 11m and a girth of 4.90m. Its structure is very wide, but the tree is rather stocky. According to the people living in the area, it is 200 years old.
Massa Lombarda: BLACK POPLAR in via Del Signore
This huge black poplar is isolated in the courtyard of a mansion house and can be seen also from a great distance. It has a girth of 458 cm and a height of 27m. The trunk is single and regular, branches begin at 5-6m of height. According to the features of the species, in particulary the scarce longevity and the fast growing, it should be a young, but relevant tree.
Lugo: BLACK POPLAR in Villa San Martino Ronchetto
This Black poplar (populus nigra), which in the local dialect is called "e bdoll", is located in Ronchetto.
Massa Lombarda: ELM in viale Ravenna
The plant (ulmus minor) is 16m heigh. Anyway they are worth of mention because exemplars of this species are very few.
Bagnacavallo: ETNOPARCO VILLANOVA DELLE CAPANNE
The ethnographic museum of Villanova (Ecomuseo delle Erbe Palustri) has been active into the field of ethnographic research for more than twenty years, and is now opening an open air museum display in the garden of the former school of Villanova.
Fusignano: FUSIGNANO'S WOOD
This wood is located west of Fusignano; it's the result of a reforestation project aiming to recreate a portion of the ancient woods of oak and hornbeam that used to be here in the past. A similar wood existed in Fusignano in the park of the villa of the Calcagnini family; sadly this was destroyed during World War II.
Lugo: GIARDINI PENSILI - HANGING GARDENS
Although it's not an historical piece, the hanging garden of Lugo fortress is extremely characteristic, thanks to the setting where it lays. The evocative meaning of the hanging garden, full of symbols, is here well expressed. The hanging garden is a tiny representation of the universe or of paradise, especially since its hanging on earth, and its linked to plenty of symbols that nature has always inspired to human imagination.
Bagnacavallo: IL GIARDINO DEGLI AFORISMI "Giardino dei Semplici"
'Giardino dei Semplici' is the last botanical garden still existing in the historical town centre of Bagnacavallo, it is also known as 'Giardino degli Aforismi' because of its iron benches bearing aphorisms by Leo Longanesi.
Bagnacavallo: MAPLE TREE in via Bagnoli
Although not very big (2.51m of girth and 14m tall), this maple tree (acer campestre) is relevant since it exceeds the typical size of its species.
